New Orleans, Louisiana – In a significant crackdown on crime, Louisiana State Police (LSP) Troopers, aided by air support and K-9 units, successfully foiled two high-speed chases in New Orleans East on September 18. The incidents were part of Operation STRIKE, a multi-agency effort aimed at reducing crime in the region.
During the first pursuit, Troopers attempted to stop a white Dodge Charger for a traffic violation. However, the driver refused to comply, leading to a brief chase. The vehicle eventually ran off the roadway, and the driver fled on foot. LSP Air Support played a crucial role in locating the driver, who was later apprehended.
Upon investigating the vehicle, Troopers discovered that the Charger was stolen. Furthermore, they seized a firearm equipped with a 50-round drum magazine, a substantial quantity of narcotics, including 35 grams of Fentanyl, and various amounts of Cocaine and Tramadol.
Later that evening, Troopers initiated a second pursuit, this time targeting a black Infiniti for a traffic violation. The vehicle’s driver also refused to stop, leading to another high-speed chase. During the pursuit, the Infiniti crashed into a fence, and the driver fled on foot. With the assistance of LSP Air Support and Slidell Police Department’s K-9 unit, comprising “Max” the dog and his handler, the driver was apprehended without incident.
A thorough search of the vehicle yielded a firearm, nearly 400 grams of Marijuana, almost 50 grams of Heroin, and over 90 grams of Cocaine. These seizures demonstrate the significant impact of Operation STRIKE on reducing crime in New Orleans East.
An arrest is an indication that probable cause exists to believe the subject was involved in the offense alleged. All persons are presumed innocent until proven guilty.
