St. Tammany Parish, Louisiana - After two citizens complained, the Louisiana State Police investigated and arrested Brett Dupre, 56, on April 1 for Malfeasance in Office and filing False Public Records. The charges were related to two vehicle crashes Dupre investigated in St. Tammany Parish in April 2023. Dupre was a Trooper in Troop L and had been with the force since 2008.

The inquiry found that Dupre deliberately did not accurately document or investigate the crashes. As a consequence of Dupre's misconduct, inaccurate information was included in the crash reports, and two possibly impaired drivers were not arrested. Troop L supervisors then carefully reviewed the incidents, corrected the crash reports, and appropriately charged the allegedly impaired and responsible drivers.

Following discussions with the St. Tammany Parish District Attorney's Office, LSP Investigators pressed charges against Dupre and placed him in custody at the St. Tammany Parish Jail on two charges of Malfeasance in Office and one count of Filing False Public Records.

At the beginning of the inquiry, Dupre was suspended from duty, and all police equipment was collected until the criminal and administrative investigations were completed. Dupre retired from the department in August 2023 while on administrative leave. Louisiana State Police indicated that the investigation is still in progress.

An arrest is an indication that probable cause exists to believe the subject was involved in the offense alleged. All persons are presumed innocent until proven guilty.
