Louisiana Triple Homicide Suspect Killed by State Police After Barricading in Apartment

Louisiana State Police are investigating a trooper-involved shooting after a triple homicide suspect reportedly barricaded himself in an apartment.

Wisner – The Franklin Parish Sheriff’s Office (FPSO) requested assistance from Louisiana State Police with an armed person on November 4, 2021, at around 12:30 p.m. Inside an apartment complex in Wisner, LA, the subject was barricaded. To assist, Troopers, Louisiana State Police Investigators, and Crisis Negotiators were dispatched to the location. According to the preliminary investigation, FPSO deputies discovered a car linked to a person wanted in connection with a triple homicide that occurred in Shreveport on November 3, 2021. A concerned person alerted the FPSO after seeing a guy matching the homicide suspect’s description entering an apartment complex on Maple Street in Wisner.

In the interest of public safety, the Franklin Parish Sheriff’s Office arrived on the scene and began evacuating apartments. The suspect began firing a gun at the deputies while evacuating the occupants.
Troopers arrived and continued removing residents while attempting to communicate with the suspect. Troopers were checking the remaining units when they came across the armed suspect, 36-year-old Berry Rigsby of Shreveport, LA. Rigsby was shot and fatally wounded by LSP members during the incident. Rigsby was wanted for his role in the triple homicide.

In the case of the Trooper-involved shooting, the Louisiana State Police will be the lead investigating agency. This assessment is still in progress. More information will be disclosed once evidence is processed and witnesses are interviewed. For the triple homicide, the Shreveport Police Department is the lead investigating agency.
