Pointe Coupee Parish, Louisiana – Louisiana State Police Troop A initiated an investigation into a two-vehicle collision on December 4, 2023, just after 5:30 p.m., on LA 411 in Pointe Coupee Parish, south of US 190. Sadly, the crash resulted in the loss of Edine Diez, a 30-year-old individual from Nicaragua.

Initial findings indicated that Diez was driving a northbound 2007 Jeep Compass on LA 411 while a southbound 2014 Toyota Corolla was also on the road. Diez failed to navigate a left-hand curve for reasons still under investigation and crossed into the opposing lane. The Jeep left and re-entered the roadway in the southbound lanes where it was struck by the Toyota.

Despite being properly restrained, Diez suffered fatal injuries and was declared deceased at the scene. The Jeep’s passengers, also properly restrained, sustained moderate injuries and were taken to a local hospital for treatment. Both the driver and passenger of the Toyota were unrestrained and suffered moderate to severe injuries.

To aid in the ongoing investigation, toxicology samples were collected from both drivers for analysis.

Louisiana State Police said that it is crucial for all motorists to make responsible decisions while operating a vehicle by avoiding impairment, fatigue, or distractions, adhering to traffic regulations, and ensuring that all occupants are properly restrained.
