Rapides Parish, Louisiana – A devastating two-vehicle crash on I-49 south of LA Hwy 121 occurred earlier today, resulting in the tragic loss of life of 48-year-old Christy N. Johnson of Pineville, Louisiana. Louisiana State Police Troop E responded to the incident at approximately 1:15 p.m.
According to the preliminary investigation, Johnson was driving a 2018 Buick SUV southbound on I-49 in the outside lane when her vehicle collided with a 2019 Chevrolet pickup that was stopped in the same lane due to traffic congestion from a prior crash. The exact cause of the crash remains under investigation, but it is clear that the consequences were catastrophic.
Johnson was rushed to a local hospital, where she was later pronounced dead. The driver of the Chevrolet, who was properly restrained, sustained minor injuries and was also transported to a local hospital for treatment. Routine toxicology tests are pending.
Louisiana State Police would like to emphasize that wearing a seat belt can dramatically reduce the risk of injury or death in a crash. In fact, not wearing a seat belt remains the leading cause of death in motor vehicle crashes. Louisiana law requires that every person in a vehicle, regardless of seating position, always remains buckled up.
Furthermore, Troopers would like to stress the importance of avoiding inattentive and distracted driving to prevent future crashes. By staying focused on the road and following traffic laws, drivers can significantly reduce the risk of being involved in a crash.
