Port Allen, Louisiana - Shortly after 5:15 p.m. on Friday, July 18, 2025, Louisiana State Police Troop A responded to a single-vehicle crash on Interstate 10 eastbound, near milepost 150, in West Baton Rouge Parish, resulting in the death of a truck driver from Florida.

The preliminary investigation revealed that a 2005 Freightliner tractor-trailer, operated by 47-year-old Jose Vasquez of Citrus Springs, Florida, was heading east on I-10 when, for reasons still under investigation, the vehicle veered off the roadway to the left. After entering the median, the Freightliner struck the cable barrier and overturned. Emergency personnel pronounced Vasquez deceased at the scene due to the severe injuries sustained during the crash.

Because of the extensive damage to the vehicle, troopers have been unable to determine if Vasquez was wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash. As part of standard procedure in fatal incidents, authorities collected a routine toxicology sample for analysis to establish whether impairment was a factor.
