Louisiana to Receive $7.25 Billion from Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act

Published November 8, 2021

Louisiana will receive at least $7.25 billion in funding for roads, bridges, ports, water, and other infrastructure from the recently passed Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act.

President Biden’s Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act has passed guaranteeing more than $7 billion for Louisiana to upgrade roads, bridges, ports, water infrastructure, and expand broadband access. The Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act is the largest investment in American infrastructure in nearly a century. Louisiana will also receive an additional $1 billion for bridge replacement and repair.

Louisiana currently has more than 3,00 miles of roadway in bad condition and 1,634 bridges that are structurally deficient. Estimates indicated that these roads cost Louisiana drivers nearly $670 a year on average. States can also compete for a share of $12.5 billion in grant funds set aside for repairing economically significant bridges, including the I-10 Calcasieu River Bridge.

In addition to roads and bridges, this bill provides $470 million to modernize Louisiana public transit statewide, a minimum of $100 million to expand broadband coverage across the state and $580 million to upgrade Louisiana’s water infrastructure.
