Louisiana Teen Killed in Single-Vehicle Crash Near LA 1, Speed and Impairment Suspected

Louisiana – According to Louisiana State Police, LSP Troop C was notified of a single-vehicle fatal crash on Louisiana Highway 1 North Service Road on May 30, 2022, shortly after 10:00 p.m. Gabriel Hebert, 19, of Raceland, Louisiana, was killed in the crash. According to preliminary findings, Hebert was speeding east on LA Hwy 1 North Service Road in a 2018 Chevrolet Camaro as he approached a left curve. Hebert went off the road to the right in the curve for unknown reasons before colliding with multiple trees. The Chevrolet was engulfed in flames after coming to a halt.

Hebert suffered fatal injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene by the Lafourche Parish Coroner’s Office. Seat belt use is currently unknown due to the severity of the damage.
Impairment is also suspected, and a toxicology sample was collected from Hebert for testing. This accident is still being investigated.

Speeding increases your chances of being seriously injured or killed in a collision, increases your chances of losing control, and reduces your ability to react to or avoid a road hazard. Alcohol and other drugs can impair your vision, fine motor skills, and reaction times. Before consuming any alcohol or drugs, drivers should make a plan for a safe ride home, because if you feel different, you drive differently.

Troop C has investigated 20 fatal crashes resulting in 21 deaths in 2022.
