Louisiana Teen Killed, Driver Injured After High Speed Crash in Stolen Vehicle
Louisiana – On June 7, 2022, shortly after 2:30 a.m., an officer with the Carencro Police Department attempted to conduct a traffic stop on LA 182 near Prejean Road. The driver refused to stop, resulting in a chase that ended in a fatal crash that killed the passenger, 16-year-old George Desamon, Jr. of Lafayette, Louisiana.
The officer attempted a traffic stop on LA 182 in Carencro on a 2019 Ford Explorer for driving without tail lights when the driver, 18-year-old Jamari Tillman of Morgan City, Louisiana, began fleeing at a high rate of speed from police. Tillman lost control of the Explorer and exited the roadway for unknown reasons. The vehicle overturned and came to rest in the Carencro Community Center parking lot. The Explorer was later determined to have been stolen in Lafayette Parish.
Desamon was unrestrained in the passenger seat at the time of the crash, and he died as a result of his injuries. The Lafayette Parish Coroner’s Office pronounced him dead at the scene. Tillman was unrestrained and taken to a nearby hospital with moderate injuries. A toxicology sample was collected and will be analyzed. The crash is still being investigated, and charges are pending.
