Rayville, Louisiana – Troopers from the Louisiana State Police Troop F started looking into a deadly solo vehicle crash on Glenda Street near South Julia Street on the evening of Sunday, March 24, 2024, just before 9:00 p.m. Sadly, the crash resulted in the death of 14-year-old Suh’renity Butler from Rayville, Louisiana.

The initial inquiry found that Butler was driving a 2007 Nissan Maxima on Glenda Street heading west. The Maxima veered off the road and hit a tree for reasons that are still being looked into.

Butler, who was securely restrained, was declared dead at the crash site. Four other passengers in the Maxima, who were also properly restrained, sustained moderate to severe injuries and were taken to nearby hospitals for treatment. Speed is believed to have played a role in the crash. Toxicology samples were taken for analysis. The crash is still being looked into by authorities.

Drivers who do not have a license do not have the required skills, training, and experience to navigate the challenges of driving, which can lead to an increase in crashes. By adhering to age restrictions for driving and encouraging safe driving practices, we can contribute to the overall safety of all individuals on the road.

So far in 2024, Troop F has investigated eight fatal crashes, which have led to eight fatalities.
