Louisiana Teen Arrested in Connection with Terrorizing Allegation After a Post about a Firearm was Made on Social Media

Terrebonne Parish, Louisiana – Terrebonne Parish Sheriff Tim Soignet announced the arrest of a Gray, Louisiana juvenile in connection with a Terrorizing allegation handled by the Terrebonne Parish Sheriff’s Office Patrol Division.

On January 11, 2023, soon after 4:00 p.m., the Terrebonne Parish Sheriff’s Office Patrol Division was dispatched to HL Bourgeois High School in response to a social media message that surfaced. An anonymous source reported the social media message, stating that a message was spotted indicating that a student was seeking to locate and secure a firearm, which he intended to bring to the High School the following morning. The Terrebonne Parish Sheriff’s Office Patrol Division confirmed the message with the help of the HL Bourgeois High School SRO and representatives from the Terrebonne Parish School Board.

As the investigation progressed, the sender of the initial message was confirmed and identified, and the TPSO Patrol Division responded to the suspect’s home, where he was taken into custody without incident. The juvenile suspect was later transferred to the Terrebonne Parish Sheriff’s Office for questioning, which was performed in accordance with Louisiana law. During the questioning, the male juvenile admitted and acknowledged that he sent the message to a fellow student, albeit he claimed that the incident was a joke.

The male juvenile was later arrested on Terrorizing charges and was remanded to the Terrebonne Parish Juvenile Justice Complex, where he is being held without bond.

In a press release, Sheriff Tim Soignet reminded the public that this is a continuing investigation and that more information will be given as it becomes available. At this point in the investigation, the identity of the juvenile is being withheld.

Sheriff Tim Soignet also indicated that he would like to thank the TPSO Patrol Division for apprehending the suspect so quickly and safely. Sheriff Soignet said, “These types are cases are extremely disturbing, and certainly call for quick action. There are still many questions to be answered in this investigation, and I ask for patience as our office continues to work through this incident. I would like to take an opportunity to applaud the efforts of all the divisions of our parish that were involved in bringing this incident to a safe resolution.”

An arrest is an indication that probable cause exists to believe the subject was involved in the offense alleged. A person is innocent until proven guilty.
