Louisiana Teen Arrested for Allegedly Threatening Violence Against Caddo Parish School in a Social Media Message
Caddo Parish, Louisiana – A Louisiana teen has been arrested for allegedly threatening violence against a Caddo Parish School in a social media message.
The Caddo Parish Sheriff’s Office announced on April 4, 2023, that on April 3, detectives apprehended a teenager for allegedly sending a message threatening school violence.
According to detectives, a Herndon Magnet School student sent a message about school violence to another student via a popular social media platform. Concerned about school safety, the student who received the messages informed a concerned adult, and word of the threat swiftly circulated throughout the school community.
Detectives were able to identify the student who made the threat during their investigation. Late last on April 3, contact was established with the student’s parents. The student was detained and charged with Menacing on one count. Investigators released the student to their parent’s custody.
According to school officials, the student will be barred from returning to campus while the investigation is continuing.
Caddo Sheriff Steve Prator and Caddo Parish School administrators are encouraging parents to talk to their children about safe social media use and to report any messages that involve threats of violence of any type. The message of “if you see something, say something” still applies. Police would also like to warn the public that all threats are taken seriously, and that anyone detected making a threat will face severe repercussions.
An arrest is an indication that probable cause exists to believe the subject was involved in the offense alleged. A person is presumed innocent until proven guilty.
