Louisiana Teen Arrested For Allegedly Shooting Another Teen After a Rock was Thrown Breaking a Vehicle Window
Vernon Parish, Louisiana – A Louisiana teen has been arrested for allegedly shooting another teen after a rock was thrown breaking a vehicle window.
On April 18, 2023, the Vernon Parish Sheriff’s Office (VPSO) reported that on April 15, at around 11:40 p.m., they received a report of a shooting at a residence in the Knight Neighborhood along Oakes Allardyce Road.
Deputies arrived at the home and discovered that a 14-year-old male with a gunshot wound to the arm had left the home and was en route to meet an ambulance in a private vehicle.
According to witnesses on the scene, a group of young people had a disagreement at the residence. Some people involved in the argument got into a vehicle and drove away from the home. An unknown person reportedly threw a rock at the vehicle as it was leaving the property, shattering the back window.
The vehicle came to a stop in the driveway, and a 17-year-old male exited the vehicle and allegedly began firing gunshots in the direction of the residence, striking the 14-year-old male.
Detectives arrived and began their investigation. Around this period, the DeRidder Police Department (DPD) contacted VPSO regarding a walk-in report of property damage to a vehicle that occurred in Vernon Parish. The DPD complainant turned out to be the father of the suspect involved in this incident, according to detectives.
Investigators spoke with the 17-year-old male and another juvenile who were in the suspect vehicle at the time of the incident and interviewed them. The 17-year-old male was detained and charged with one count of Aggravated Battery, one count of Aggravated Assault, one count of Illegal Possession of a Firearm by a Juvenile, and one count of Illegal Use of a Weapon following the interview.
The firearm used in the crime was recovered by detectives.
The gunshot victim was released from the hospital that night and is expected to recover completely.
Prior to the shooting on April 15, VPSO responded to a call at the same address on Allardyce Road on April 13 and 14 for loud music complaints.
An arrest is an indication that probable cause exists to believe the subject was involved in the offense alleged. A person is presumed innocent until proven guilty.
