Louisiana State Troopers Arrest New Orleans Man for Human Trafficking

New Orleans – On August 3, 2019, Louisiana State Troopers arrested a New Orleans man for charges related to human trafficking. 20-year-old Tyrin Evans was arrested for various charges after he fled from Troopers with a juvenile victim in his vehicle.

The initial investigation revealed that shortly before 9:00 pm on July 31st, Troopers attempted to stop the driver of a vehicle on North Tonti Street at South Dorgenois Street in New Orleans. The driver, later identified as Evans, refused to stop and initiated a pursuit. Evans eventually crashed the vehicle into a light pole and was taken into custody. A juvenile female fled from the vehicle, but was located by Troopers and transported to a local hospital.

Troopers along with Louisiana State Police Special Victims Unit (SVU) Detectives furthered the investigation and found evidence consistent with human trafficking and sexual misconduct. As a result, Detectives obtained an arrest warrant charging Evans with LRS 14:46.3 Trafficking of children for sexual purposes (1 count), LRS14:81.1 Pornography involving juveniles (4 counts), LRS 14:80 Carnal knowledge of a juvenile (3 counts felony), and LRS 14:81.3 Computer-aided solicitation of a minor (3 counts). Evans was admitted to a hospital following the crash, but was booked into the Orleans Parish Prison on the warrant today.

The Louisiana State Police Special Victims Unit works to rescue and seek justice for the victims of crimes involving the exploitation of children and the trafficking of humans for sex or labor. The public plays an important role in identifying suspects accused of these crimes and is urged to report criminal or suspicious activity. The Louisiana State Police online reporting system is available to the public through an anonymous reporting form that is submitted to the appropriate investigators. The form can be found by visiting http://la-safe.org/ and clicking on the “Suspicious Activity” link.
