St. Charles Parish, Louisiana - In the early hours of November 24, 2023, a Louisiana State Police Trooper from Troop B was aiding a disabled vehicle on the left shoulder of I-10 west on the Bonnet Carre Spillway near milepost 215 in Norco, Louisiana.

The trooper had positioned his marked patrol unit in the left lane with emergency lights on while the driver of the disabled vehicle was changing a tire. As the trooper was outside his vehicle, a 2019 Nissan Maxima driven by 19-year-old Briana Dunlap of St. Gabriel, Louisiana, collided with the rear of the marked unit. Following the collision, Dunlap briefly stopped in the left lane before continuing west on I-10. With assistance from the St. Charles Parish Sheriff's Office, Dunlap's vehicle was stopped shortly afterward.

During investigation procedures, signs of impairment were observed in Dunlap and she provided a breath sample indicating her blood alcohol concentration exceeded legal limits for individuals under 21 years old. Consequently, Dunlap was arrested and booked into St. John Parish Correctional Center for her first offense of underage DWI. Additionally, she received a citation for Hit and Run which took place in St. Charles Parish.

Both the trooper and Dunlap were uninjured in the crash.

An arrest is an indication that probable cause exists to believe the subject was involved in the offense alleged. All persons are presumed innocent until proven guilty.
