Published April 25, 2021

Troopers with the Louisiana State Police rescued an elderly woman trapped in her vehicle by rising waters during the heavy rainstorms that passed over parts of the state on April 23, 2021.

From Louisiana State Police, April 23, 2021, a large portion of Louisiana encountered severe weather with localized flooding. Around 10:30 p.m., Troop E (Alexandria) received a report of a submerged vehicle near Alexandria. The caller reported that a female was trapped and could not remove herself from the vehicle.

Troopers quickly responded to the area and located a vehicle in a flooded ditch, with an occupant inside. Two Troopers entered the flooded water and were able to extricate the elderly female from the vehicle, as the water continued to rise. Because of the swift current, Troopers on the bank and civilian bystanders were needed to pull the elderly female out of the water and the Troopers performing the initial rescue.
