Louisiana State Representative Charged with DWI and Other Charges After Troopers Witness Him Doing a Burnout

Baton Rouge, Louisiana – Louisiana State Police reported on August 21, 2022, that soon after 2:00 a.m., Troopers with LSP Troop A noticed an alleged reckless driver on East Boyd Drive at Burbank Drive in East Baton Rouge Parish. The automobile was driven by Louisiana State Representative Larry Selders, 40, of Baton Rouge, Louisiana.

According to the preliminary investigation, Selders was driving a 2018 Dodge Challenger east on East Boyd Drive when Troopers noticed him traveling at a high rate of speed while performing a burnout with his car. According to Louisiana State Police, when the Trooper came into contact with Selders, he suspected impairment and administered a battery of routine field sobriety tests. Selders was arrested for Driving While Impaired (1st Offense), Reckless Driving, and Driving While Suspended.

Selders was taken to the LSU Police Department, where he agreed to a chemical breath test, which revealed that he was over the legal limit. Selders was then transferred to the East Baton Rouge Parish Prison to be fingerprinted via AFIS before being released on a summons.

When drinking alcohol, Louisiana State Police advise drivers to have a strategy in place that includes a designated driver. Alcohol can impair vision, change one’s sense of time and space, impair fine motor skills, and slow reaction times.
