After receiving several reports from residents across the state, Louisiana State Police want to alert the public about an ongoing telephone scam.
Fraudsters are illegally using the name of the Louisiana State Police to dupe victims into giving away their information and money.
It has been reported that impostors are allegedly reaching out to potential victims via phone calls, disguising their calls as originating from a number that supposedly belongs to the Louisiana State Police. It is stated by those who complained that the callers pretend to be police officers in their attempt to extract personal information and/or money from the victims over the phone.
The troopers emphasize that individuals should never provide personal details to unsolicited callers. They also note that the Louisiana State Police would never solicit personal identification information, payments, or financial contributions via phone.
Individuals who want to notify the authorities about possible scam calls can get in touch with the Louisiana State Analytical and Fusion Center (LA-SAFE) at 225-925-4192.
Louisiana State Police also offers an online reporting platform that is accessible to the public. This user-friendly and secure form sends information straight to the correct investigators. To use this feature, members of the public can go to the LA-SAFE website and submit the incident activity.
