According to Troopers with Louisiana State Police Troop A, the crash was reported shortly before 8:30 a.m. Initial findings indicate that Garcia was walking in the northbound lane of LA 327 Spur, close to the intersection of Rush Avenue, between 3:45 a.m. and 5:00 a.m. During this time, an unknown vehicle traveling northbound struck Garcia and left the scene without stopping to call for help or provide assistance. Garcia was pronounced dead at the scene.

Troopers are working to identify both the vehicle involved and its driver. Under Louisiana law, it is mandatory for any driver involved in a crash resulting in injury or death to remain at the scene and notify law enforcement.
