Louisiana State Police Seek Information on Fatal Hit-and-Run in Acadia Parish

Crowley, Louisiana - In the early hours of August 9, 2024, just after midnight, Louisiana State Police Troop I began investigating a tragic hit-and-run crash that occurred near the intersection of Jasmine Road and Interstate 10 Service Road in Acadia Parish. The incident resulted in the death of 41-year-old Coby Ortego from Ville Platte.

According to the preliminary investigation, an unidentified vehicle was traveling west on Jasmine Road when it struck Ortego, who was on foot. After the collision, the vehicle continued driving and fled the scene without stopping to render aid or report the crash.

Ortego sustained fatal injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene by authorities. As part of the investigation, standard toxicology samples were collected from Ortego and submitted for analysis. This is a routine procedure to determine whether any substances might have contributed to the incident.

At this point in the investigation, the make, model, and color of the suspect vehicle remain unknown. Louisiana State Police are actively seeking information from the public to help identify the driver and the vehicle involved in this fatal hit-and-run.
