Start, Louisiana - A pedestrian was fatally struck by a vehicle on Interstate 20 in Louisiana on Sunday, October 20, 2024, and authorities are seeking the public's help in finding the driver responsible for the fatal crash.

According to the Louisiana State Police, the incident occurred at approximately 10:00 p.m. on Sunday, when 35-year-old Jared Osbon of West Monroe was walking in the left eastbound lane of Interstate 20, just east of Louisiana Highway 133. Osbon was hit by an unknown vehicle, which fled the scene, leaving him with fatal injuries. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

Troopers from the Louisiana State Police Troop F began investigating the crash shortly before 9:00 a.m. on Monday, October 21, 2024. Through their investigation, they determined that the vehicle that struck Osbon was a 2021 or newer Ford Super Duty (F-250 or F-350). The vehicle sustained damage to its left front headlight assembly and grill.

Louisiana State Police are urging anyone with information about the crash to come forward. Authorities can be contacted at 318-345-0000. The investigation is ongoing, and the police are working to identify the driver responsible for the fatal crash.

The use of interstate highways by pedestrians is prohibited in Louisiana, and the state police are taking this opportunity to remind the public of the dangers of walking on highways. Pedestrians are advised to maintain heightened awareness while walking near roads, especially in areas where pedestrian traffic is allowed. Simple precautions such as wearing reflective materials, avoiding distractions, and walking a safe distance from travel lanes while facing oncoming traffic can help prevent many pedestrian-related crashes.

Additionally, the state police are reminding drivers of the consequences of hit-and-run driving. In Louisiana, whoever commits the crime of felony hit-and-run driving when death or serious bodily injury is a result can be fined up to $5,000 and face up to 10 years in prison.

An arrest is an indication that probable cause exists to believe the subject was involved in the offense alleged. All persons are presumed innocent until proven guilty.
