Louisiana State Police Seek Driver After Deadly Hit-And-Run Crash On Highway 86 Near Suard Road

New Iberia, Louisiana – Louisiana State Police are investigating a fatal hit-and-run crash that claimed the life of a New Iberia man on Louisiana Highway 86 near Suard Road.

According to Louisiana State Police Troop I, the incident was reported shortly after 10:30 a.m. on January 11, 2026. Troopers responded to the scene on LA 86, where they discovered 66-year-old Russell Green of New Iberia dead from injuries consistent with being struck by a vehicle.

Timeline And Location Of The Crash

Based on the preliminary investigation, troopers believe Green was walking along Louisiana Highway 86 when he was hit by an unknown vehicle traveling in an unknown direction. After the crash, the vehicle left the scene without stopping, as required by Louisiana law.

Investigators estimate the crash took place sometime between approximately 10:40 p.m. on January 10, 2026, and the time authorities were notified on the morning of January 11. The specific point of impact and the direction of travel have not yet been confirmed.

The incident occurred near Suard Road, a stretch of highway that connects local residential and rural areas in Iberia Parish. Louisiana Highway 86 is a common route for local traffic, and pedestrian visibility can be a concern, especially during nighttime hours.

Victim Identified As New Iberia Man

Troopers identified the pedestrian as 66-year-old Russell Green of New Iberia. Authorities say Green suffered fatal injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene.

As part of standard procedure in fatal roadway incidents, a toxicology sample was collected from Green and submitted for analysis. Toxicology tests check for the presence of alcohol or drugs in a person’s system, but the results have not yet been released. At this stage, there is no public indication that impairment by the pedestrian or any driver played a role, and investigators have not made any related determinations.
