Baton Rouge, Louisiana - Louisiana State Police Troop A is asking for the public's help in locating a driver who fled the scene after striking and killing a pedestrian on LA 67 in Baton Rouge on October 22, 2025.
James Rasberry, 71, of Hodge, Louisiana, died at the scene after being struck from behind while walking along the southbound shoulder of LA 67, just north of LA 408. Troopers responded to the fatal crash shortly before 1:45 p.m.
The preliminary investigation revealed that Rasberry was walking on the shoulder when an unknown vehicle hit him from behind. The driver did not stop after the collision and left the scene in an unknown direction, according to Louisiana State Police.
Rasberry suffered severe injuries from the impact and was pronounced deceased at the scene. While impairment remains an unknown factor in the crash, investigators collected a routine toxicology sample for analysis, which is standard procedure in fatal crashes.
The Louisiana State Police Crime Lab responded to the scene to process and collect evidence. Based on that evidence, investigators believe the suspect vehicle is a 2019 or newer Nissan Altima. The vehicle should have visible damage to the right front bumper area, including the headlight and side mirror.
Leaving the scene of a crash, especially one involving injuries or death, is a serious criminal offense in Louisiana. Hit-and-run crashes involving fatalities can result in significant prison time and fines for the driver responsible.
Troopers are actively working to identify the driver of the vehicle. Anyone with information about this crash or who may have seen a damaged Nissan Altima in the Baton Rouge area is urged to contact Louisiana State Police Troop A at (225) 754-8500.
The crash remains under investigation as authorities continue gathering evidence and interviewing potential witnesses. LA 67 is a major state highway in the Baton Rouge area, and investigators believe someone may have witnessed the crash or seen the damaged vehicle.
All persons are presumed innocent until proven guilty.
