Louisiana State Police Report Fatal Incident Involving Sheriff’s Office Vehicle on US Hwy 84

Coushatta, Louisiana – A tragic two-vehicle crash occurred on February 22, 2025, at approximately 9:45 a.m., claiming the life of a 70-year-old woman from Coushatta, Louisiana. The Louisiana State Police Troop G responded to the incident, which took place on U.S. Highway 84 near Cut-Off Road.

According to the preliminary investigation, the crash involved a 2019 Chevrolet Tahoe, driven by 23-year-old Asia Pikes, who was traveling westbound on U.S. Highway 84. The Tahoe was equipped with emergency lights and sirens, and it was clearly marked as a unit of the Red River Parish Sheriff’s Office. Simultaneously, a 2022 Nissan Rogue, operated by Ella Winn, was traveling eastbound on the same highway.

Louisiana State Police reported that for reasons still being investigated, the Nissan Rogue made a left turn directly into the path of the Tahoe, resulting in a collision between the two vehicles. Winn, who was reportedly not wearing a seatbelt at the time of the incident, suffered fatal injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene by responding medical personnel. Pikes, on the other hand, was properly restrained and sustained serious injuries. She was subsequently transported to a local hospital for medical treatment.

While impairment was not suspected in the crash, standard toxicology samples were collected from both drivers and are currently being analyzed. The Louisiana State Police have stated that the investigation into the cause of the crash is ongoing.

In light of this tragic incident, the Louisiana State Police are reminding drivers of the importance of adhering to traffic laws, maintaining awareness while driving, and ensuring that all vehicle occupants are securely restrained.
