Louisiana State Police Release Updated Information on Investigation of Deadly February 3 Officer-Involved Shooting in Shreveport
Shreveport, Louisiana – Louisiana State Police have released updated information on an investigation of a deadly February 3 officer-involved shooting in Shreveport, Louisiana.
On February 6, 2023, Louisiana State Police (LSP) reported that the Shreveport Police Department (SPD) requested detectives assigned to the LSP Bureau of Investigations to investigate an officer-involved shooting on Friday, February 3, 2023. The shooting involved an SPD officer and resulted in the death of Alonzo Bagley, 43, of Shreveport, Louisiana.
According to the preliminary investigation, two SPD officers responded to the Villa Norte Apartment Complex, located in the 1600 block of Fullerton Street, at approximately 10:51 p.m. on February 3, 2023, in reference to a domestic disturbance. Mr. Bagley exited the apartment from the balcony, jumped to the ground, and fled on foot as officers approached the domestic disturbance complainant.
After a brief foot pursuit, SPD officer Alexander Tyler located Mr. Bagley as he rounded a building corner and fired one shot from his service weapon, striking him in the chest. Mr. Bagley was taken to Ochsner LSU Health in Shreveport for treatment, but he was later declared dead.
The Louisiana State Police is leading the investigation into this officer-involved shooting. Louisiana State Police Crime Lab Technicians processed the incident scene.
The investigation is still going on and Louisiana State Police indicated that this is a lengthy process; witness statements are still being obtained, and evidence is being analyzed. More information will be released at the appropriate time in collaboration with the Caddo Parish District Attorney’s Office. As the investigation continues, coordination and collaboration between law enforcement and the Shreveport community will be critical to gaining a complete understanding of the events leading up to the shooting.
