Louisiana – On February 7, 2022, the Tangipahoa Sheriff’s Office requested the Louisiana State Police Insurance Fraud/Auto Theft Unit and Criminal Investigations Division Detectives in the New Orleans Field Office (LSP-CID-IFAT-NFO) to assist in the investigation of a stolen tractor trailer. Detectives learned that a $125,000 2019 Peterbilt tractor was stolen in St. Helena Parish. Soon after, a 2021 flatbed trailer worth $50,000 and containing nine rolls of 7,000 pound aluminum wire worth $154,000 was stolen in Tangipahoa Parish.

Detectives were able to locate the truck and trailer at 8761 Old Gentilly Road in New Orleans using investigative techniques. During their investigation, detectives discovered Terry Woodside, 53, actively dismantling the stolen truck and trailer. The trailer’s nine rolls of aluminum wire had been unloaded and were nearby.
On the property, detectives also discovered several other partially dismantled stolen vehicles. The Auto Theft Unit of the New Orleans Police Department responded and assisted in the recovery of those vehicles.

As a result of the investigation, Woodside was arrested for Possession of Stolen Things in excess of $324,000 and the Removal or Alteration of Vehicle Identifying Numbers and booked into the Orleans Parish Jail.

The LSP-IFAT-NFO continues to investigate crimes related to auto theft and insurance fraud. Citizens can report suspected fraud to the LSP-IFAT via: [email protected].

An arrest is an indication that probable cause exists to believe the subject was involved in the offense alleged. A person is innocent until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt.
