Calcasieu Parish, Louisiana – A high-speed chase on Interstate 10 in Louisiana came to an end on November 28, 2024, after a suspect vehicle, a 2023 Jeep Cherokee, was stopped by state police. The pursuit began when Troop D received a report of the vehicle’s involvement in a multi-jurisdictional theft case.
According to the Louisiana State Police (LSP), a trooper spotted the Jeep traveling westbound on I-10 near Iowa. As the trooper followed the vehicle, the driver, later identified as 27-year-old Shanan P. McCoy Jr. of Texas, continued onto I-210 before exiting onto US Hwy 90. A traffic stop was attempted in the parking lot of a nearby convenience store, but McCoy refused to stop and struck a fully marked LSP unit.
McCoy and two passengers then attempted to flee on foot but were apprehended by troopers after a brief pursuit.
A search warrant was obtained for the Jeep, leading to the recovery of approximately 34 Apple MacBook Airs, 5 Apple MacBook Pros, 3 Apple iPad Pros, and various tools and items consistent with burglary activities. Detectives from the LSP Criminal Investigations Division were contacted to assist with the investigation.
McCoy was booked into the Calcasieu Correctional Center on charges of aggravated battery, flight from an officer, and driving under suspension. Additional charges are expected as the investigation continues.
The identities of the remaining passengers are still being determined, and the LSP is urging anyone with information, photos, or videos related to this case to come forward. Tips can be submitted anonymously through the LSP online reporting system or by calling the LSP Fusion Center Hotline at 1-800-434-8007.
