Louisiana State Police Provide Update on Fatal Officer-Involved Shooting in Marksville

Marksville, Louisiana — The Louisiana State Police have provided an update on an investigation into a fatal officer-involved shooting that took place on Laurel Street in Marksville on June 15, 2025. Authorities responded to reports of gunfire in the area at approximately 4:50 p.m., prompting involvement from the Marksville Police Department (MPD) and subsequent support from state police detectives.

According to official statements, MPD officers were responding to a shots-fired complaint when they encountered a male subject in the vicinity. During the encounter, a physical altercation occurred, and the individual reportedly armed himself with a firearm. In response to the perceived threat, an officer discharged his weapon, striking the subject.

After the shooting, officers at the scene immediately rendered aid to the individual. Emergency Medical Services (EMS) arrived shortly thereafter and transported the man to a local hospital, where he was ultimately pronounced dead. The identity of the deceased has not yet been released, pending further investigation and notification of next of kin.

Both involved officers sustained minor injuries during the altercation. They received medical treatment and were subsequently released. No further injuries to bystanders were reported.

The Louisiana State Police Bureau of Investigations is leading the ongoing investigation, working in coordination with the Avoyelles Parish District Attorney’s Office.
