Louisiana State Police released an update to an August 2, deputy-involved shooting in Sabine Parish near the town of Many. The incident unfolded around 9:42 p.m. on Branam Road after Sabine Parish Sheriff’s Office deputies attempted to stop a subject to serve a property ban notice related to a previous event. Authorities report that the subject failed to stop, leading deputies on a vehicle pursuit that ended at the subject’s residence.

Upon arrival at the residence, the subject exited his vehicle while armed with a firearm, then retreated inside and barricaded himself. Deputies established a perimeter and began negotiating in hopes of a peaceful resolution. Several hours later, the subject emerged from the residence still armed with a firearm and two knives. According to investigators, deputies issued verbal commands for the subject to surrender his weapons, but he refused. As a result, a deputy discharged his firearm, striking the subject. Deputies immediately provided medical aid until emergency medical services arrived. The subject was transported to a local hospital, where he was later pronounced dead.
