Union Parish, Louisiana – Troopers with Louisiana State Police Troop F started looking into a deadly single-vehicle crash on LA-15 at Holmesville Road on March 21, 2024, just after 10:00 p.m. The crash resulted in the death of Van Hrin Cung, a 17-year-old from Dallas, Texas.

The initial inquiry showed that a 2021 Dodge Durango, operated by Cung, was speeding south on LA-15. The vehicle then veered off the road and collided with a tree for reasons that are still being looked into.

Cung, who was securely restrained, was declared dead at the scene of the crash. While there are no indications of impairment, standard toxicology samples were taken for analysis. The investigation into this crash is ongoing.

Teen drivers face difficulty in staying safe on the road because of their limited driving experience. It’s crucial to understand that driving comes with a significant responsibility that can result in permanent outcomes. By wearing a seatbelt, minimizing distractions, and following speed limits, the chances of sustaining serious injuries or death in a potential accident can be reduced.

So far in 2024, Troop F has investigated seven fatal crashes, leading to the deaths of seven individuals.
