Louisiana State Police K-9 Reza Retires After Seven Years of Dedicated Service

Louisiana – On September 27, 2022, Louisiana State Police announced that K-9 Reza will retire following seven years of dedicated service. Reza is a nine-year-old Belgian-Malinois who immigrated to the United States from the Netherlands. K-9 Reza joined the Louisiana State Police in the fall of 2015 and has been assigned to Troop L with her handler, Sgt. Matt Fandal, ever since.

LSP said that Reza has worked relentlessly throughout her career and has been involved in hundreds of key drug smuggling investigations undertaken by the Louisiana State Police Criminal Patrols Unit. Her abilities have led to the direct recovery of over 1,000 pounds of illicit narcotics, as well as hundreds of thousands of dollars in revenues from illegal narcotics sales. Methamphetamine, cocaine, heroin, MDMA, and marijuana were among the drugs seized. The wholesale value of the illegal narcotics confiscated exceeded $9,000,000.

K-9 Reza will spend her remaining years in the care of Sgt. Fandal and his family, living a tranquil, retired life.
