Louisiana State Police Investigating Officer-Involved Shooting That Occured on Hodges Street in Lake Charles
Lake Charles, Louisiana – On August 19, 2022, the Louisiana State Police confirmed that the Lake Charles Police Department (LCPD) asked their Criminal Investigations Division (LSP-CID) to investigate a shooting involving their officers.
The preliminary investigation found that on August 19, 2022, at about 6:27 a.m., officers from the Lake Charles Police Department (LCPD) were dispatched to a home on Hodges Street in Lake Charles in response to suspicious circumstances. Officers made contact with the individual, who was later identified as Sheri Carlson, 45, of Lake Charles, Louisiana. Carlson showed a weapon and discharged it during the interaction as she was standing near the apartment entryway. Officers from the LCPD fired their weapons, striking Carlson in the lower torso. Carlson was apprehended in a neighboring yard a short time later while still in possession of the weapon.
Carlson was taken to a hospital in the Lake Charles area with non-life threatening injuries. During the altercation, no officers were hurt.
The Louisiana State Police is leading the investigation into the officer-involved shooting. The Forensic Investigative Unit of the Calcasieu Parish Sheriff’s Office went to the scene and is cooperating with the investigation.
According to Louisiana State Police, this is an ongoing investigation, and further details will be released as they become available.
A person is innocent until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt.
