Louisiana State Police Investigating Officer-Involved Shooting After Armed Suspect is Shot and Killed During a Domestic Disturbance Investigation

Louisiana – Louisiana State Police reported on August 23, 2022, that at approximately 1:00 p.m., Detectives assigned to the LSP Bureau of Investigations were summoned to investigate a shooting incident involving the Port Fourchon Harbor Police Department and the Lafourche Parish Sheriff’s Office.

The Lafourche Parish Sheriff’s Office received a call at 12:00 p.m. about an armed individual engaging in a domestic disturbance at a home in the 200 block of West 133rd Street. A suspect at the property opened fire on Lafourche Parish Sheriff’s Office officers and a Port Fourchon Harbor Police Department officer upon their arrival. As a result, the Harbor Police officer discharged his service weapon, striking the individual, who was later identified as Geraldo Reyes, 32, of Cut Off, Louisiana. Reyes died at the scene. During the incident, no law enforcement personnel were injured.

The Louisiana State Police Crime Laboratory is processing the scene of this officer-involved shooting, which is being investigated by the Louisiana State Police. The investigation is still open and ongoing.

According to Louisiana State Police, more information will be shared as it becomes available.
