Saint Francisville, Louisiana - Louisiana State Police are investigating a deadly single-vehicle crash that occurred shortly after 9 a.m. on January 28, 2026, on Louisiana Highway 10 (LA 10) near Louisiana Highway 965 (LA 965) in West Feliciana Parish. The incident claimed the life of 49-year-old Jason Freeman of St. Francisville, according to troopers with Louisiana State Police Troop A.
Troopers reported that the crash happened on LA 10 just east of the LA 965 intersection, in a section of roadway that includes a slight left-hand curve. Based on the preliminary investigation, Freeman was driving a 1999 Ford F-150 eastbound on LA 10 as he approached the curve.
For reasons that remain under investigation, Freeman failed to negotiate the left-hand curve, and the Ford F-150 traveled off the right side of the roadway. After leaving the travel lane, the pickup struck a tree. Following the impact, the vehicle became fully engulfed in flames.
Freeman suffered fatal injuries as a result of the crash and was pronounced dead at the scene. Due to the severity of the incident and the fire damage to the vehicle, troopers said it is unknown whether Freeman was wearing a seat belt at the time of the crash.
Louisiana State Police noted that impairment is not a suspected factor at this stage of the investigation. However, in keeping with standard investigative procedure, a routine toxicology sample will be collected and submitted for analysis. The results of that testing will be reviewed as part of the overall crash investigation.
No additional vehicles were involved in the incident, and no other injuries were reported.
The crash remains under investigation by Louisiana State Police Troop A. As with similar fatal roadway incidents, investigators will continue to examine factors such as road conditions, vehicle condition, speed, and any potential driver-related issues to determine exactly what led to the crash.
Motorists traveling in rural areas like West Feliciana Parish often encounter curves, changing road surfaces, and limited shoulders. State Police routinely encourage drivers across Louisiana to reduce speed when approaching curves, remain alert, and use seat belts on every trip, regardless of distance. While investigators have not yet determined whether restraint use played a role in this crash, troopers frequently cite proper seat belt use and safe driving habits as key parts of reducing serious injuries and deaths on state highways.
Further information may be released by Louisiana State Police as the investigation progresses and toxicology results become available.
