Zachary, Louisiana - Louisiana State Police are investigating a fatal vehicle versus pedestrian crash that occurred shortly before 7 p.m. on December 27, 2025, on LA 67 near Wilmore Drive. The incident resulted in the death of 68-year-old Leon McKneely of Zachary.

According to a preliminary report from Louisiana State Police Troop A, a 2009 Ford Fusion was traveling northbound on LA 67 near Wilmore Drive when the crash happened. At the same time, investigators say McKneely was walking in the northbound lane of the highway.

For reasons that remain under investigation, the Ford struck McKneely in the center of the northbound lane.

McKneely sustained serious injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene.

State Police reported that the driver of the Ford was unrestrained at the time of the crash but did not suffer injuries. While impairment is not suspected in this incident, troopers collected routine toxicology samples from the involved parties, which will be submitted for laboratory analysis as part of the standard investigative process.

The crash remains under active investigation by Louisiana State Police Troop A. No further information has been released.
