Louisiana State Police Investigating Deputy-Involved Shooting After a Suspect was Shot During a Foot Pursuit

The Louisiana State Police has reported that on August 22, 2021, shortly before midnight, they were requested by the Lafourche Parish Sheriff’s Office (LPSO) to investigate a shooting incident involving one of their deputies. Detectives assigned to the Louisiana State Police Bureau of Investigations are investigating the incident.

The initial investigation revealed deputies with the Lafourche Parish Sheriff’s Office received a report of a disturbance involving a subject armed with a rifle. As LPSO deputies arrived in the area they observed a vehicle traveling on Adams Street matching the description of the one driven by the suspect. Deputies attempted to stop the vehicle and a short pursuit ensued. The vehicle came to a stop in the 200 block of Adams Street where the driver exited the vehicle with a firearm and attempted to flee on foot. During the course of a foot chase, at least one deputy discharged his weapon and struck the suspect. The suspect was transported to University Medical Center by Acadian Ambulance with non-life-threatening injuries. The deputies were uninjured and no other injuries were reported during the incident.

Louisiana State Police is the lead investigating agency and the Louisiana State Police Crime Lab is assisting with the scene. The investigation remains active and ongoing.
