Louisiana State Police Investigating Deputy-Involved Shooting After 69 Year-Old Was Shot and Killed by Police

Red River Parish, Louisiana – Louisiana State Police reported on August 28, 2022, that on August 27, 2022, just before 5:00 p.m., Detectives assigned to the LSP Bureau of Investigations were asked to investigate a deputy-involved shooting. Deputies from the Red River Parish Sheriff’s Office were involved in the incident.

Deputies were investigating a previous incident involving an alleged armed suspect and a complaint that occurred at a different location than the deputy-involved shooting, according to the preliminary investigation. Deputies met with the complaint at a church on US Highway 71, just north of A.C. Whatley Road. The suspect, Maxie George, 69, of Coushatta, Louisiana, appeared on the scene and approached deputies while they were interviewing the complainant. George was shot during the course of the interaction. The Red River Parish Coroner pronounced him deceased at the scene.

The Louisiana State Police Crime Laboratory is processing the scene of this deputy-involved shooting, which is being investigated by the Louisiana State Police. The investigation is still open and ongoing. More information will be made released when it becomes available.
