Louisiana State Police Investigating Death of Man Tasered by Shreveport Police During Burglary Patrol

Shreveport, Louisiana - Louisiana State Police is currently looking into a death that occurred while an individual was in custody in Shreveport. The incident took place on Saturday, December 9, 2023, just after 11:30 p.m., when Shreveport Police Patrol Officers were patrolling the Broadmoor area due to an increase in burglaries. They encountered a man on a bicycle in the 4100 block of Youree Drive within the city limits of Shreveport.

According to reports from authorities, the man fled, leading to a chase through A.C. Steere Park. When the pursuit ended, the man reportedly refused to cooperate with the officer's commands and was tasered by one of them in an attempt to gain compliance. After being tasered, the man experienced medical distress and officers administered life-saving measures before transporting him to Ochsner LSU Health Shreveport where he was later pronounced deceased.

No officers were injured during this incident.

The Shreveport Police Department has asked Louisiana State Police to handle the investigation into this death while in custody. Further information will be provided as it becomes available through collaboration with the Caddo Parish District Attorney's Office and LSP Investigators.
