Bourg, Louisiana – Louisiana State Police Troop C initiated an investigation into a deadly single-vehicle crash involving a pedestrian on Lower Country Drive at approximately 10 pm on February 26, 2024. The victim, 30-year-old Kristie Brunet from Bourg, Louisiana lost her life in the incident.

Initial findings from the investigation indicated that Brunet was walking in the northbound lane of Lower Country Drive when a 2005 GMC Sierra, also traveling north, struck her for reasons that are still being looked into.

Brunet sustained injuries that turned out to be fatal, resulting in her death at the scene. The driver of the GMC was not injured at all.

A typical sample for toxicology testing was obtained from Brunet and sent for analysis. The driver of the GMC was found to have no signs of impairment, and willingly took a breathalyzer test that came back negative for alcohol. The cause of the crash is still being looked into.

Ensuring pedestrian safety is critical when walking near or crossing roads. To reduce the risk of crashes, pedestrians should walk against oncoming traffic so they can see approaching vehicles and react promptly. Wearing bright clothing or using reflective accessories while walking in low light conditions also helps increase visibility to motorists.

Troop C has looked into three deadly accidents that led to the deaths of three people in 2024.
