Officer-Involved Shooting in Lafayette Under Investigation
Lafayette, Louisiana - Louisiana State Police investigators are actively looking into an officer-involved shooting incident that took place late March 31 on South Orange Street in Lafayette.
The incident unfolded when Lafayette Police officers responded to reports of a disturbance involving weapons on Lilly Street around 7:30 p.m. Upon their arrival, one officer engaged in a foot pursuit with a suspect who was reportedly armed with a rifle. During the pursuit, the officer discharged his duty weapon as the suspect approached a crowd in a public park. The suspect sustained non-life-threatening injuries from the incident and was promptly taken to a local hospital for treatment. No officers were harmed during the altercation.
The Lafayette Metro Crime Scene unit assisted Louisiana State Police investigators in processing the scene, and efforts are underway to gather additional information regarding the incident. The investigation is still ongoing at this time.
