Louisiana State Police Investigate Fatal Pedestrian Crash on U.S. Highway 80

Monroe, Louisiana – A pedestrian crash on U.S. Highway 80 near Selman Drive in Ouachita Parish on October 11 resulted in the death of 53-year-old Ayonna Wilson of Monroe, Louisiana. According to the Louisiana State Police, the incident occurred at approximately 3:00 p.m. when Wilson entered the roadway and walked into the path of a 2016 Nissan Altima traveling west on U.S. Highway 80.

The preliminary investigation revealed that the Nissan, driven by a properly restrained and uninjured individual, collided with Wilson, who sustained severe injuries and was transported to a local hospital. Wilson was pronounced deceased upon arrival at the hospital.

Although impairment is not suspected to have played a role in the crash, routine toxicology samples were collected from the driver and will be submitted for analysis. The Louisiana State Police are continuing to investigate the incident.

Louisiana State Troopers urge pedestrians to exercise caution when walking near roadways. To reduce the risk of being involved in a pedestrian-related crash, pedestrians are advised to wear light-colored clothing, avoid distractions, and maintain a safe distance from travel lanes while walking near oncoming vehicles. Motorists are also reminded to remain vigilant when approaching disabled vehicles or pedestrians near the roadside.
