Rayne, Louisiana — The Louisiana State Police Bureau of Investigations is leading an inquiry into a fatal officer-involved shooting that occurred on May 5, 2025, in Rayne, Louisiana. The incident resulted in the death of Lieutenant Allen Credeur, a 48-year-old veteran of the Rayne Police Department (RPD), after he was shot by a fellow officer during the execution of a search warrant.

Incident Details

According to preliminary reports, Rayne Police Department officers were serving a search warrant at a residence on East Harrop Street at approximately 2:00 p.m. on May 5. The purpose of the search warrant has not yet been released, as authorities continue to analyze the circumstances leading up to the shooting.

While executing the warrant, a Rayne Police Department officer discharged their service weapon. Lieutenant Credeur was struck by the gunfire. Officers at the scene immediately provided emergency medical assistance, but Credeur was pronounced deceased before he could be transported to a hospital.

Ongoing Investigation

Upon request from the Rayne Police Department, Louisiana State Police detectives responded to the scene to lead the investigation, as is standard protocol when a local law enforcement agency is involved in a shooting. Detectives are conducting interviews, collecting physical evidence, and reviewing any available body camera or dashboard camera footage.

The scene on East Harrop Street was secured by both local and state officers as investigators worked to understand the sequence of events. The investigation aims to determine why the service weapon was discharged and whether all law enforcement procedures were followed during the execution of the search warrant.
