Schriever, Louisiana – A 19-year-old motorcyclist succumbed to his injuries following a two-vehicle crash at the intersection of Louisiana Highways 24 and 311, according to Louisiana State Police Troop C.

Gabe Gautreaux of Thibodaux, Louisiana was traveling south on Highway 24 on his 2006 Yamaha motorcycle when the incident occurred shortly after 3:00 p.m. on December 22, 2024. Preliminary investigations indicate Gautreaux was operating the motorcycle at high speeds as he approached the intersection.

The crash occurred when a 2019 Ford Fiesta, traveling eastbound on Highway 311, crossed the intersection with Highway 24. Despite wearing a Department of Transportation (DOT) approved helmet, Gautreaux sustained severe injuries in the resulting collision.

Emergency responders transported Gautreaux to an out-of-area hospital for treatment. Louisiana State Police confirmed that he passed away on December 23, 2024, from injuries sustained in the crash.

The driver of the Ford Fiesta, who was properly restrained during the incident, emerged uninjured. Following standard protocol, authorities collected toxicology samples from Gautreaux for analysis. The Fiesta’s driver showed no signs of impairment and voluntarily submitted to a breath test, which detected no alcohol.

Louisiana State Police Troop C continues to investigate the circumstances surrounding the crash.
