Duson, Louisiana – A fatal hit-and-run crash on Interstate 10 West in Lafayette Parish claimed the life of a 38-year-old woman early Monday morning. Louisiana State Police Troop I began investigating the incident at approximately 1:00 a.m. on October 28, 2024, near Louisiana Highway 343.

According to the preliminary investigation, a 2024 Hyundai Santa Cruz, traveling westbound on I-10 in the right lane, struck the rear of an unknown commercial motor vehicle (CMV). Following the collision, the Hyundai veered off the roadway to the right, while the CMV continued westbound on I-10.

Ashley Campbell, a passenger in the Hyundai and a resident of Temple, Texas, sustained fatal injuries and was pronounced deceased at the scene. The driver and a juvenile passenger, whose restraint use is still under investigation, sustained moderate injuries and were transported to a nearby hospital.

Routine toxicology samples were collected for analysis. The police are now seeking information about the CMV, which likely sustained rear damage in the crash.
