Jackson, Louisiana — Louisiana State Police Troop A responded to a deadly single-vehicle crash shortly before 11 p.m. on May 21, 2025, on LA 68, north of LA 10. The incident resulted in the death of 21-year-old Michael Lillie of Jackson.
According to preliminary findings, Lillie was driving a 2014 Hyundai Santa Fe southbound on LA 68 at what authorities described as a high rate of speed. For reasons that remain under investigation, the vehicle failed to navigate a left-hand curve. The car exited the roadway to the right, struck a culvert—a concrete or metal structure allowing water to flow under the road—then became airborne. After leaving the ground, the Hyundai collided with a utility pole before overturning.
Investigators confirmed that Lillie was not wearing a seat belt at the time of the crash. He suffered fatal injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene by the East Feliciana Parish Coroner’s Office.
At this stage of the investigation, it is unknown if impairment—such as alcohol or drug use—played a role in the crash. However, as is routine in fatal incidents, troopers collected a toxicology sample from Lillie for further analysis.
The Louisiana State Police encourage all drivers and passengers to wear seat belts, regardless of the distance traveled or familiarity with the route. Authorities continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding this crash to determine contributing factors.
