Jackson Parish, Louisiana – On June 27, Louisiana State Police Troop F responded to a tragic incident on LA 34 near Chatham Lake Road that claimed the life of 61-year-old David Perry.
The preliminary investigation revealed that David Perry was driving a 2023 Buick Enclave southbound on LA 34 when, for reasons still under investigation, his vehicle crossed the centerline and collided with a 2016 Ford F-150 traveling northbound on the same road.
David Perry, who was not wearing a seat belt at the time of the crash, sustained fatal injuries and was pronounced deceased at the scene. The three occupants inside the Ford were properly restrained and did not suffer any injuries.
As part of the ongoing investigation, a standard toxicology sample was obtained from David Perry and submitted for analysis to determine if any substances played a role in the crash.
In 2024 alone, Troop F has already investigated 22 fatal crashes, resulting in 23 tragic deaths. These statistics serve as a somber reminder of the importance of road safety measures, such as wearing seat belts.
While not all crashes can be survived, wearing your seat belt greatly increases your chances of surviving and reduces the risk of severe injuries in the event of a crash. Louisiana law mandates that all individuals in a vehicle, regardless of where they are seated, must wear seat belts at all times.
Properly wearing a seat belt is one of the most effective ways to protect yourself and others while on the road.
The Louisiana State Police urge all drivers and passengers to prioritize safety and adhere to seat belt laws to prevent further tragedies on the roads.
