Louisiana State Police Investigate Fatal Crash on Highway 26

Oberlin, Louisiana – On January 24, 2025, Louisiana State Police Troop D commenced an investigation into a single-vehicle fatality crash that occurred shortly after 6:00 p.m. on Louisiana Highway 26, near Turner Road. The incident resulted in the death of 37-year-old Corey Dauzat, a resident of Oakdale, Louisiana.

According to preliminary reports, Dauzat was operating a 1998 GMC Sierra and was traveling eastbound on LA Highway 26 when, for reasons that remain unclear, the vehicle crossed the centerline. The GMC subsequently veered off the roadway to the left and collided with a tree.

At the time of the crash, Dauzat was not wearing a seatbelt. The impact caused fatal injuries, and he was pronounced dead at the scene by emergency responders.

In accordance with standard procedure, a toxicology sample was collected from the deceased and is currently undergoing analysis. The results of this analysis may provide additional insights into the circumstances surrounding the incident. The investigation remains ongoing as authorities work to piece together the events leading up to the crash.
