Opelousas, Louisiana – On January 5, 2025, at approximately 10:00 a.m., Louisiana State Police Troop I commenced an investigation into a serious injury crash on Louisiana Highway 3043, located about 0.30 miles east of Webb Lane. Tragically, this incident resulted in the death of 46-year-old Nakeisha Pitre of Opelousas, Louisiana.

Preliminary findings from the investigation indicate that Pitre was driving a 1998 Chevrolet United States Postal Service mail vehicle in an eastbound direction on LA Hwy 3043. A 2023 Honda Passport was following closely behind. In an attempt to overtake the Chevrolet, the driver of the Honda entered the westbound lane of LA Hwy 3043. At that moment, Pitre began to slow down and make a left turn toward a private driveway. This maneuver placed her vehicle directly in the path of the Honda, leading to a collision with the rear of the Chevrolet.

As a result of the crash, Pitre, who was not wearing a seatbelt, was ejected from her vehicle and sustained serious injuries. She was transported to a nearby hospital for medical treatment. The driver of the Honda, who was wearing a seatbelt, suffered only minor injuries.

On January 15, 2025, Louisiana State Police Troop I received the tragic news that Pitre had succumbed to her injuries as a result of the crash. The investigation into this incident is ongoing.
