Oakdale, Louisiana – A fatal two-vehicle crash on U.S. Highway 165 in Louisiana has claimed the life of a 26-year-old man from Glenmora. The incident occurred on September 3, 2024, shortly after midnight, and is currently under investigation by Louisiana State Police Troop D.
According to the preliminary investigation, a 2008 Chevrolet Equinox was traveling southbound on U.S. Highway 165 in the left lane when it was struck from behind by a 2014 Kia Forte, driven by Sebastian Janow. The impact caused serious injuries to Janow, who was unrestrained at the time of the crash. He was transported to a local hospital, where he later succumbed to his injuries.
The driver of the Equinox, who was also unrestrained, sustained moderate injuries, while a juvenile passenger in the vehicle received minor injuries. Seatbelt use by the juvenile passenger is still under investigation.
Toxicology samples were collected from both drivers and are being analyzed to determine if impairment was a factor in the crash. The investigation is ongoing, and no further details have been released at this time.
The Louisiana State Police are using this incident to remind motorists of the importance of safe driving practices. “Never drive impaired, fatigued, or distracted,” they urge. Additionally, they emphasize the importance of wearing seatbelts, as required by Louisiana law, to reduce the risk of serious injury or death in the event of a crash.
While not all crashes are survivable, taking these precautions can significantly reduce the chances of being severely injured or killed. The police are encouraging all drivers to make good decisions behind the wheel to ensure their safety and the safety of others on the road.
