Louisiana State Police Investigate Deputy-Involved Shooting Near Independence

Independence, Louisiana — The Louisiana State Police Bureau of Investigations has launched an inquiry into a deputy-involved shooting that occurred on May 8, 2025, near Independence in Tangipahoa Parish. The incident took place at approximately 8:20 p.m. on Labruzza Lane, close to Louisiana Highway 40, following a request from the Tangipahoa Parish Sheriff’s Office for outside assistance.

Incident Overview and Immediate Response

According to authorities, detectives responded to the scene after reports of a shooting involving a sheriff’s deputy. One suspect was shot during the encounter and was transported to a nearby hospital for medical treatment. At this time, the condition of the suspect has not been disclosed. No deputies suffered injuries during the incident.

State police investigators are currently processing the scene, collecting evidence, and interviewing witnesses.
